PLACES I HAVE LIVED

As Jean and I remembered it in 2010.

1944 Judy born at Aunt Helen’s in Indianapolis IN.

1945 went to CA, stayed on base.

1946 Jean born, lived in Roger Young Village.

1949 parents bought two bedroom house in Rosemead, Judy went to kindergarten there.

1950 Bluford Street in Whittier, Evergreen School -- parents bought this house in 1950 for $5,000 and sold it in 1955 for $12,500. Judy attended first through fifth grades at Evergreen, Jean kindergarten through third.

1955 tiny rented house in Escondido for a day or two, then rented 10-acre ranch in Vista for the summer, Jean going into 4th, Judy into 6th grade.

1955 a two-bedroom rented house in Covina for one week with our parakeets Joey and Billy loose, in fall, just before school started.

1955 two bedroom rented house on Danby Street in Whittier for 4th (Jean) and 6th (Judy) grades, Daniel Phelan Elementary School.

1956 two bedroom rented house on Allerton Street in Whittier, Jean in 5th at Phelan, Judy in 7th grade at Katherine Edwards Middle School.

1957 rented two bedroom apartment on Barclona Street in San Clemente, Jean in 5th and Judy in 7th at Las Palmas School.

1958 rented or bought Aunt Lucille’s three bedroom Cliff May house on Amador Street in Vista, where we each had our own bedroom, Jean in 6th at Olive Elementary and Judy in 8th grade at Vista Junior High.

1959 rented two bedroom house on Rodelle Street in Arcadia, Jean in 7th at Dana Jr High and Judy in 9th grade at Arcadia High.

1960 rented three bedroom house (own rooms again!) on Wisteria Street in Arcadia, for Jean’s 8th  9th and Judy’s 10th  11th grades.

1962 rented two bedroom apartment on Holly Avenue in Arcadia, for Jean 10th – 12th and Judy 12th grade, high school graduation, and freshman year in the Sproul Hall dorm at UCLA.

1965 parents moved to Wilson Avenue apartment in Pasadena.

1966 parents moved to The Pines on Duarte Road in Arcadia.

Late 60s to early 70s, parents lived in apartments near Huntington Drive, one on Michillinda, one in Monrovia.

1974 parents lived in a Temple City condo that they owned when Kelly was born.

Late 1978 parents bought condo on Montecito Road in Sierra Madre, then dad died Feb 12 1979 and mom died there Sep 3 2003.

For UCLA years, Judy lived:

1962 Sproul Hall dorm;

1963 apartment on Strathmore Avenue;

1964 Hershey Hall (Mira Hershey Hall) women’s only dorm at UCLA then, later a graduate dorm, later torn down;

1965 married student housing on Sawtelle, torn down in 1980s;

1969 rental house on Swarthmore with Ariella and Linda.

1971 - 1973 London, flats in Golder’s Green, Wimbledon, Highgate, while teaching psychology at Birkbeck College, University of London. Owned 1/2 the flat in Highgate.

1973 - 1974 rented apartments on Stoner Ave in West LA and Princeton Ave in Santa Monica, while teaching part time at CSUDH and working full time at Kennedy Child Study center.

Jan 1975 Judy bought house at 674 Swarthmore, Pacific Palisades, for $60,000, and sold it in 1998 for $480,000. When bought, it was 800 square feet with two bedrooms. It was added on to until it was 2200 square feet with four bedrooms and a separate two room apartment in basement. (Also owned 1/2 house in Northridge and a darling historic house in Santa Fe, New Mexico during this time. These were sold about the same time as the Swarthmore house)

1996 bought houses on Jade Cove Way, Seal Beach.

We had twelve different residences while I went to public school. I lived in five different places while at UCLA. I had three flats in London and two apartments when I returned to the U.S.A. 

No wonder I stayed on Swarthmore for over 20 years!
